Court Remands Seun Kuti for 4 more Days




Respite seems not to  be in view for Afro Beat crooner,Seun Kuti as  he has been ordered by a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos State to remain in custody for an additional four days. 


The police sought an extension of the remand order until May 22, which was granted by Chief Magistrate Mrs. Adeola Olatubosun. 


The extension is necessary for the police to conduct further investigation into the case.


Seun Kuti, an afrobeat singer, is currently on trial following the emergence of a video showing him slapping and pushing a police officer on Third Mainland Bridge. 


The police have charged him with assaulting an inspector, driving recklessly on the bridge, and intentionally obstructing a moving police vehicle.


On Tuesday, May 16, Seun Kuti was initially brought before the court, and the police obtained a 48-hour detention order. 


However, the magistrate ruled that he should be granted bail in the amount of one million Naira, with two sureties who must be landlords within the court's jurisdiction. 


The case was adjourned until May 22 for mention, and the prosecutor was instructed to duplicate the case file and send a copy to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.
