Several scores of family members, who are residents of Akin Olugbade /Funso Ettu, Kareem Anifowose, Church Streets and surrounding Streets off Olowookere cum Princess Abiola Streets, off Council , Idimu-Ikotun Road, have been reeling under prolonged total blackout since the. morning of Sunday 21st May, till the time if writing this Report on Thursday, 25th May, 2023. .
Investigation reveals that officials of Ikeja Electric at their Branch Office at Liasu Road, off Council Round About, are deliberately doing this to inflict maximum punishment on residents of the areas listed above, after having an altercation with a particular landlady in the area.
Funnily, most of the landlords insist that were not even privy to cause of the altercation.
As at the time of putting this Report together by 5.15 p.m. on Thursday, , 25th May, 2023, concerned residents have had all their perishable food items stored in the fridges and freezers for preservation, totally destroyed, and had to be thrown away.
One other major problem that they have faced is the problem of getting portable water for their domestic use, since there has been no electricity supplied to them by Ikeja Electric , since early on Sunday, to enable them pump water out of their wells and boreholes.
It was gathered that though officials at Ikeja Electric restored light to adjoining Streets like Jemi Alade, Olowookere, Odogbolu and Princess Abiola Streets between late on Monday and Tuesday afternoon, sources close to the officials at their Liasu Road office revealed that they were rebuffing all pleas on them to promptly restore power to most landlords in the affected areas, who are not even aware of the altercation between the affected landlord ant officials of Ikeja Electric, in order to safe the concerned residents of contracting water-borne disease
ORIGIN OF THE CRISIS:
The whole crisis was said to have started when some tenants at a building at Ismail Ajibade allegedly beat up some officials of the Marketing Department of Ikeja Electric, inflicting serious bodily harm.
The crisis was said to have been escalated to both the Okota Sun-Station and Ikeja Headquarters of Ikeja Electric.
What Ikeja Electric appears to be enjoying now for plunging scores of residents of a substantial part of Ireposun CDA, at Idimu-Council, who know nothing about the whole crisis between some tenants of a particular house and officials if Ikeja Electric, IS THE POWER OF MONOPOLY, whereby Ikeja Electric remains the sole authority in-charge of electricity distribution in the area, like the other Electricity Distribution Companies across the country.
Such an absolute MONOPOLY being enjoyed by Ikeja Electric and others, which enables them to be taking laws into its hands, by willingly plunging whole communities of its consumers into prolonged blackouts, by being the accuser and the judge, may however no longer be subsist for long anymore, with the recent removal of Electricity Generation and Distribution from the Exclusive List to the Legislative List with the signing into Law, the 2023 Constitutional Amendment by out-going President Muhammadu Buhari about about two months ago.
The coming into power of In-coming President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would most likely put a final stop to the anti-development monopoly that has been making nonsense of Electricity distribution across Nigeria since independence.
