It was a celebration time at the Agege Lagos state secretariat of the national union of road transport workers (NURTW) as the new chairman,Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio,popularly known as Tafa Sego resumed office
The new chairman, who was unanimously picked by members was ushered into the expansive union office in Oladoje street in Oko Oba area of Agege by jubilant members and officers of the Union, who heaved a sigh of relief over the impasse that ravaged the union ,until the immediate past chairman vacated the exalted seat
Several union members on getting the information of the resumption of the new chairman stormed the office and waited patiently until he drove into the compound in a black coloured Mercedes Benz and was hailed by members present
As he was preppared for the day's job, Alhaji Tafa Sego immediately went into marathon meeting with members and officers ,where he outlined his plans for the union,while he solicited their cooperation
In his acceptance speech,he promised that the union will be one that members will be proud of and that he will be transparent and accountable in running the affairs of the union
According to him"with profound sense of responsibility and dedication, I embark on this journey,guided by the principles of integrity ,transparency and service to our esteemed members and state at large. As I step into this role ,I am profoundly grateful for the trust and confidence vested in me by members of our esteemed union"
Continuing " I recognize the weight of this responsibility and I pledged to uphold the highest standards of leadership ,ensuring that the interests of the committees and our members are protected and advanced. Under my tenure,I commit to fostering unity,harmony and cooperation among all stakeholders within the transportation sector,together ,we will work tirelessly to address the challenges facing our industry ,striving for innovation and excellence in service delivery "
He commended the past regime for their service to the union ,especially their dedication and contributions to the union,while promising to continue to advance the mission and vision of the union
Lastly,he appealed to all members of the union to join hands with him in the pursuit of progress and prosperity ,stating " together, let's chart a course toward a brighter future for our union and communities we serve.
