COURT REMANDS CLERIC FOR ALLEGED RAPE OF 22 YEAR OLD LADY IN BADAGRY

The Badagry Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos State on Tuesday remanded Sunday Adewoye, a 45-year-old cleric accused of raping a 22-year-old woman.

Mr Adewoye, whose address was not provided, is accused of unlawful sexual penetration and rape.

The Chief Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya, did not hear Adewoye's plea.

He stated that he needed advice from the state director of public prosecutions.

The chief magistrate ordered that the defendant be held in a custodial facility pending the advice.

He adjourned the case until June 3 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, informed the court that Adewoye committed the crimes on April 17 at 5.00 p.m. on Joseph Dosu Way in Badagry.

Mr Adeosun stated that Adewoye engaged in sexual intercourse with the 22-year-old woman without her consent, in violation of Sections 260 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
