As the nation celebrates twenty five years of democracy today,citizens have been admonished to be steadfast and have hope that only in democracy that the full potential of the country can be fully achieved ,for the good of all
The admonition was given by the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin local Council,Engr Valentine Oluwaseyi Buraimoh in his democracy day speech issued by his media office,Commending prominent figures in the restoration of Democracy for their sacrifices and commitment to good governance
Engr Buraimoh Commended the resilience and patriotic role of pro democracy Activists who paid the supreme sacrifice for democracy like ,Late Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin,Pa Alfred Rewane,Alhaja Kudirat Olayinka Abiola, Alhaja Zuliat Adedeji etc
Furthermore,Engr Buraimoh praised living legends of the Democratic process ,who at the risk of their lives insisted democracy must thrive,he particularly mentioned the president and commander in Chief, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,Prof Wole Soyinka,Mr Femi Falana,Prof Bolaji Akinyemi,Gen. Alani Akinrinade etc
The Council helmsman however posited that though the country has not achieved it's full potential,but the process of her greatness has commenced with the policies and projects of the Incumbent president,who was involved in the restoration battle for six years
He appealed to Nigerians to continue to bear with President Tinubu ,assuring that as a Democrat ,he won't initiate policies that will not benefit the people,stressing that though the pains are there,and that the outcome will be fruitful
In his words " let me join others in celebrating 25 years of democracy in our dear country. No doubt,the struggle was hard fought and fierce,but the military returned to the barracks for us to enjoy our democracy which is the best form of government. Let me salute the doggedness and resilience of the like of Bashorun MKO Abiola who paid the supreme sacrifice,his wife Alhaja Kudirat Abiola,Pa Alfred Rewane,Senator Abraham Adesanya etc,they gave all they had for democracy to triumph"
"On the 25th years of democracy,though we are not where we ought to be ,but our democratic journey has been steadily improving and we will continue to protect and defend it by protecting the rights of the people and giving dividends of democracy to the people"
"On behalf of the Executive, Management,staff and people of Amuwo Odofin local government,I wish Nigerians happy 25th Anniversary of democracy, happy anniversary all", he concluded
