The member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode popularly known as OMOJ'OMOLO was on friday hosted his Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-1 inaugural stakeholders meeting. The event which was simultaneously held in all the forty constituencies in the state was at Abibatu Mogaji Hall of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Secretariat and it brought together many residents, Traditional leaders, Politicians, community leaders, religious leaders, youths, students, market men and women.
In his address, Hon Ogundipe first apologized to the people for the late invite for the event which he attributed to the busy schedule of the House. He stated that the event is now a statutory meeting that assist legislators in the state to take well informed position to formulate beneficial policies for the citizens most especially in preparation for the following year budgets.
Hon Ogundipe appealed to all political leaders to come together and work for the development of Oshodi. He emphasized the importance of cooperation among leaders. He assured residents of quality representation and he pledged to do all within his capacity as permitted by the constitution to work for the people. "As humans, we are bound to have disagreement but we must put our community first in all we do. This is our own Lekki, this is our VGC." Hon Ogundipe concluded.
He acknowledged the importance of the meeting which he also termed a feedback mechanism of the assembly. Hon Ogundipe emphasized on agricultural revolution to curtain hunger in the land, community security to have peace and enabling environment, and youths engagement to achieve the revolution.
The representative of the farmers at the event, appealed to the government to further look at collaboration with the neighboring states to acquire more lands for cultivations because of limited arable lands in Lagos.
Mr Ade Macarthy who spoke on behalf of the Community Development Council (CDC), demanded that government should assist Lagosians with seedlings to encourage home cultivations due to limited available lands for agriculture. He said people can grow what they eat within their compound if organic seedlings are available for home cultivations.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Sogunle Police Station, spoke on extensively on security, she said bad parenting is a phenomenal thing that breeds criminals. She challenged parents to be alive to their duties by dedicating reasonable time to their children upbringing as bad parenting breeds criminals. She also appealed to the state and the legislator to assist with operational vehicles for all the police divisions in the constituency to be able function maximally. The Superintendent of Police demand that government should prevail on Commodity Carriers to be responsible and respond to police emergency call at all times to compliment their work. "Security is everybody's business so parents, community leaders and commodity carriers should jointly work to curtain criminal activities instead of leaving it for police alone." The DPO concluded.
Mr Keshinro Emmanuel who spoke on behalf of the youths listed many challenges of the youths which included joblessness in Nigeria today, and he said many recruitments now pegged age limit at 24 even including government agencies and military. He then appealed to Hon Ogundipe to help in formulating policies that could compelled employers and most government agencies to shift the age limit to 30 in order to accommodate a sizeable numbers of youths. Meanwhile, Comrade Rasheedat Yusuf former Vice Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria in Lagos State challenged Hon Ogundipe on youths engagement which will be of mutual benefits to both parties. Comrade Yusuf appealed to the honorable to use his position and past working experience to assist in secure sizeable numbers of employment for the youths in the constituency. She said that will expand his support base and popularity among the residents instead of total concentrations on politicians and politically link people alone.
The height of the event was the presentation of meritorious awards of service to stakeholders who have contributed to the development of the communities in the constituency. Amongst such are Prince Ifalade Ajasa Oyekan; GM, Neighborhood Safety Corps Agency, Engr Tunde Faleye; Chairman, Oshodi-Mafoluku-Sogunle-Ewu communities (OMSE), Alhaji Surajudeen Ojulari; The Founder and Chief Missioner, ASMUF, Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), Hon Taiwo Ayedun; former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Alhaji Emmanuel Mabinuori (T-Top), late Alhaji Olawonyin; the former Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC) and many others.
Many dignitaries graced the occasion and amongst which are HRM Oba Shakirudeen Adeshina Kuti, The Elewu of Ewu land, High Chief Ajisegiri; the Baale of Sogunle, High Chief Obidairo; the Baale of Sogunle Oke, The Ven (Dr) Kelvin Tope-Tapere; the Archdeacon of Oshodi Archdeaconry Anglican Communion, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) delegates led by the Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) team and, Council of Chief Imams in Oshodi.
