The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) engaged members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Jesus Sanctuary Parish, Surulere) in an awareness session on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) on Sunday, November 10, 2024. This initiative is part of the Agency’s ongoing commitment to ensure that no sector in the State is left out in the campaign against SGBV.

Held over two services with an attendance exceeding 1,000 worshippers, the session provided a crucial platform to discuss strategies for addressing domestic and sexual violence within the community.

Mr. Damilare Adewusi, Head of Community Engagement at DSVA, represented the Executive Secretary, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, and presented an overview of the free services offered by the Agency to assist victims and educate the public. He urged attendees to act as "brother’s keepers" by reporting any signs of abuse observed within their communities, environment, or families.

Adewusi highlighted the Agency’s dedication to victim safety and its mission to reduce SGBV incidents in Lagos State. He noted that DSVA's expanded outreach efforts aim to combat all forms of abuse by fostering community awareness and responsibility. Emphasizing the importance of vigilance, he encouraged parents to remain proactive in monitoring their children's schools and asking pertinent questions to ensure their children’s safety.

Earlier in the service, Prof. Omolade Olunike Olomola, a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, discussed the intersection of legal and biblical perspectives on SGBV, enriching participants’ understanding of the issue’s societal and moral implications.

The session concluded with a call to action from Adewusi, urging attendees to report any cases of abuse either to their church pastor or by calling DSVA’s toll-free helpline. Awareness materials on SGBV were distributed, and the Agency’s toll-free helpline, 0800-333-333, was shared with all in attendance.
