... As COWA TCIP Celebrates 2024 in Grand Style

The National President of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), Mrs. Adeniyi, has commissioned an ultra-modern secretariat, empowering 14 officers' wives with financial support and skill acquisition certificates.

The commissioning of the rebranded Secretariat, which was held on Monday, 16 December 2024, at the Tincan Island Port (TCIP) Command in Apapa, Lagos, witnessed a very large turnout of officers' wives, senior officers of the service, as well as stakeholders.

Mrs. Adeniyi described the modern edifice as a legacy that will serve as a beacon of hope for COWA members at the Tincan Island Port Command.

She said, "This development marks a significant attainment for COWA as an association; it underscores NCS’s support, commitment, and solidarity that defines the Customs Officers Wives Association. Today, we have gathered to celebrate and inaugurate the new Secretariat of COWA Tincan Island Chapter and also give out palliative items to widows in our community and COWA members being empowered."

She pointed out that the Command's Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, now an Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) in an acting capacity, is creating a legacy in revenue generation and facility development in Tincan Island.

She stated further that the Chairperson of the COWA Chapter, Mrs. Chinelo Dera Nnadi, has not only displayed dynamic and purpose-driven leadership but has also been very supportive of the development strides of the acting ACG.

In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the COWA TCIP Chapter, Mrs. Chinelo Dera Nnadi, stated the Ultra Modern Secretariat is a "testament of love, Commitment, and dedication of wives of officers of Tincan Island Chapter to ensure that the Noble objectives of empowering and building the capacity of women are enhanced. We want to create more bonding opportunities for COWA TCIP through skill acquisition and empowerment."

She expressed her gratitude to the National President of COWA for her support and leadership and promised to continue to work for the growth of COWA.

On his part, Comptroller Nnadi extolled the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and goal-oriented approach which provided the platform for the transformational changes at the Command. "What we are celebrating is the manifestation of the mentorship I received under the CGC."

He commended stakeholders for their roles in ensuring the infrastructural transformation and acknowledged their significant contributions in achieving the Command's revenue generation target of over N1.2 trillion in 2024.

The historic event rounded off with an end-of-the-year party, where officers and their families celebrated their achievements and strengthened their bond.
