...Says We Will Reconvene In Due Course
Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has described as a show of shame the four-member plenary session presided by the removed speaker, Dr Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.
In an interview with journalists in the court premises in Ikeja on Friday, the Speaker said that based on the standing rules of the House, there is a number that forms quorum, describing the purported plenary as a farce.
She said; “I think to me, that was just a show of shame. Because in our job, we have numbers that form quorum,” she said.
“So if you are sitting with three or four members, you’re only doing a tear job,” she said.
On Obasa's appearance in court and the reported breaking into her office, Speaker Meranda said Obasa has the right to still make appearance in the complex as he still still part of the Lagos State House of Assembly, however condemning the action of the former speaker in alleged breakage into her office.
“Well, I think he’s still a member of the House of Assembly, so he has every right to come to the Assembly. But to both invasion and breaking into my office, that is really a very big one,” Meranda said.
On the court appearance, she said there was the need to allow the law to take its full course, explaining that Thursday’s hearing was the beginning of the matter.
“This is actually just the beginning. And I think we should allow the legal team to do their job.”
On the restoration of her security details as revealed by the state police command, Meranda said; “Well, I have, I think, three or four policemen. Whereas my normal security team is 12 policemen, four officers of the DSS and two antibomb experts. But as at this morning, I don’t have that,” she said.
She however, stated that the house would reconvene for plenary in due course.
