The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme(@rolacng) (RoLAC)—supported by the European Union (@euinnigeria) and implemented by International IDEA (@international_idea)—hosted the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 celebration for Survivors on March 7, 2025.
Themed “Accelerate Action,” the event focused on immediate steps to promote gender equality, protect women’s rights, and dismantle societal barriers to progress. It was hosted by Dr. Gbonjubola Babalola-Abiri (@drgbonjubolaabiri), a leading voice in mental health advocacy and gender-based violence prevention.
In her welcome address, the Executive Secretary of DSVA @lolavivouradeniyi emphasized that IWD is a day to celebrate the resilience and triumphs of women, particularly Survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). She reiterated the urgent need for policies that protect women and girls, stronger support systems for Survivors, and economic empowerment to break cycles of abuse.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Kemi DaSilva-Ibru (@kdsibru), founder of @warif_ng, who stressed the importance of collective action, education, and safe spaces for women to heal.
A panel session, moderated by Mrs. Debola Oni, featured experts discussing mental resilience, community-led advocacy, and the role of men in gender equality. The event also included a Pilates and wellness session led by Ms. Oyinkan Talabi (@pilateswithoyin), reinforcing the need for self-care.
The celebration concluded with a renewed call to action—gender equality must be achieved through education, awareness, and systemic reforms.
