The Lagos State Government has announced plans to open the discounted market at Fresh Food Hub in Mushin to allow residents especially Muslim and Christian faithful savour the Ounje Eko during the month-long Ramadan fast and the Lent season.
This comes as the state government also renewed commitment to accomplishing her 5-year Agricultural and Food Systems Roadmap's market transformation template for overall benefit of residents.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya disclosed this at a 3-day annual retreat for staff of the Ministry held at the Orchid Hotel, Lekki Lagos.
She said that considering the reduction in the price of fuel which has led to reduction in prices of food in some quarters adding with the support given to farmers under the Ounje Eko Farmers' Subsidy Program the impact will be felt on the prices of food in this Ramadan and Lent season.
Olusanya noted that Agriculture is a work in progress and needs consistent efforts, which prompted the deliberate actions by Governor Sanwo-Olu's administration to continuously address the evolving challenges towards revolutionising the state Agricultural value-chain.
According to her, government is confident that food security and sustainability in the state is sacrosanct and it is working with the relevant stakeholders to create a supportive environment for all players.
Olusanya explained that the 5-year Agricultural development road map, launched in April 2021 is in line with the THEMES plus developmental agenda of the state is still on course to ensure the sector adds values in sustaining food security in the metropolis.
On the annual retreat, Olusanya stressed that the event was designed to review the activities of the Ministry in the past year and look into years ahead for optimal value delivery in the sector.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. Rotimi Fashola said that the retreat has allowed members of staff to interact and connect for more rewarding opportunities that would improve the Ministry's activities in the coming months.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Fatai Audu Emmanuel stressed that the retreat is bridging the gaps towards creating a healthy competition that would bring positive outcomes to the development of the state as it concerns Agric and food systems in Lagos state.
The Guest speaker at the retreat who is the Chairman Origin Tech Group, Mr Joseph Samuel said there are enormous opportunities in the agricultural space and commended the state government's strides towards sustaining the agric ecosystem.
In his presentation on 'Produce for Lagos' Initiative, Mr Samuel
explained that the state government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is building a Market-led Agric System with major agro products processing projects found across the metropolis.
The State Commissioner For Budget and Economic Planing, Mr Ope George during an interactive session answered questions on financial activities and other related development in the management of Budgeting in the state.
The retreat provided platform for each Department and Unit in the ministry to present their Scorecards in 2024 with an advise from Comissioner to improve on them this year.
The theme of the retreat is "The Adaptive Edge, Lead Change, Connect Strongly, Thrive as One".
