On April 10, 2025, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) held a door-to-door sensitization campaign in Ikeja Local Government Area to raise awareness on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
The Onilekere Community Development Association (CDA) participated, with IEC materials distributed to community leaders who pledged to share the information widely. The campaign spanned key locations, including Otunba Oludare Lane, Babaponmile Street, Onigbongbo Road, Sunday Farm Estate, and Cement Bus Stop, as well as churches, mosques, schools, hospitals, and mechanic workshops.
The outreach extended to markets such as Ifesowapo, Kokoro, and Agunbiade, and institutions like the Chief Nelson Vocational and Skill Acquisition Institute. Residents were educated on SGBV, the importance of reporting cases, and support services available. They were encouraged to call the toll-free line 08000-333-333 for prompt and confidential help.
The SGBV Family Support Unit (FSU) Officer from Area F Police Station praised DSVA’s efforts and pledged continued collaboration. Tricycle riders in Agunbiade Market expressed appreciation for the enlightenment, promising to report incidents of abuse actively.
The campaign reached over 14,000 residents and reaffirmed DSVA’s commitment to fostering community-based responses to SGBV. However, the agency noted some community expectations for monetary incentives, underscoring the need for ongoing education on civic responsibility and collective action against violence.
By working with community leaders and stakeholders, DSVA remains dedicated to creating a safer and more informed
