LASCON MIDWIFERY DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENT

...Records 100% Pass Rate In National Examination

… Requests Automatic Employment For High-Flying Midwives

The Department of Midwifery at the Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando (LASCON), is celebrating an exceptional achievement with a 100% pass rate in the recent National Final Qualifying Examination for Midwives, conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in March 2025.

All 75 students who participated in the rigorous examination demonstrated remarkable excellence, a testament to their unwavering dedication and the high-quality education provided by the College. This outstanding result underscores LASCON's commitment to producing highly competent midwifery professionals.

Mrs. Urena Orji, Head of the Department of Midwifery, expressed profound joy and pride in the students' success. "This perfect pass rate is a resounding affirmation of the hard work, resilience, and commitment of our students, as well as the dedication and expertise of our faculty," she stated. "We congratulate these graduates and their families on this significant milestone and wish them fulfilling and impactful careers in midwifery."

The successful cohort of 75 students represents those who persevered from an initial intake of 85 students in March 2022 into the Basic Midwifery programme. Notably, this group marks the final set of students under the distinct Department of Midwifery at LASCON.

Mrs. Orji lauded the entire staff of the Midwifery Department for their tireless efforts, unwavering dedication, and professional expertise, which were pivotal in achieving this remarkable outcome. She emphasised the crucial roles of teamwork, passion, and a commitment to excellence in delivering quality midwifery education.

In light of this outstanding performance, the HOD made a passionate appeal to the Lagos State Government and the Health Service Commission to consider granting automatic employment to these newly qualified midwives. She argued that such a measure would significantly strengthen the state's healthcare workforce and enhance productivity within its health sector.

LASCON remains steadfast in its mission to produce well-rounded nurses equipped to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care that adheres to global best practices. This exceptional achievement by the Department of Midwifery further solidifies the College's reputation as a leading institution for nursing and midwifery education in Lagos State and Nigeria.
