Abdulrasheed Akanni Okoya, Chief Operations Officer of Fufubiao Group of Companies, has called on the Federal Government to support producers of building materials and household items in order to reduce costs and ease the financial burden on Nigerian families.
Speaking at a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, Okoya emphasised the need for urgent government intervention to make building materials and essential household items more affordable amid rising economic challenges.
“We established Fufubiao in 2019 to fill the gap in the household items sector.
"It is high time the Nigerian government took proactive steps to support producers of building materials and home essentials such as sanitary wares, furniture, security doors, lighting, hotel supplies, cleaning equipment, and office supplies," he said.
He noted that inflation has drastically affected the cost of living, compelling many Nigerians to prioritize food over other basic necessities. As a result, access to essential household items and decent housing has become increasingly difficult for the average citizen.
Okoya stressed the need for government collaboration with companies like Fufubiao to make these products more accessible and affordable. He also called for stronger support for the domestic production of building materials to help reduce construction costs, project expenses, and rent.
While commending President Bola Tinubu’s recent policy discouraging the importation of goods that can be produced locally, Okoya urged the government to create an enabling environment for local manufacturers. He specifically advocated for reduced tariffs and duties to encourage local production and affordable pricing.
“Many Nigerians are homeless and have turned markets and under-bridges into their place of abode. We call on stakeholders and the government to act swiftly in bringing down the cost of building so that homes can become affordable for all,” he concluded.
