Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Assembly to improving transportation infrastructure across the state through sound legislation and enduring policy frameworks.
Speaking on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Hon. Ogundipe made this declaration at the 2nd Lagos Traffic Conference held in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary (Silver Jubilee) of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The high-profile event, themed “Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations,” took place at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. It convened key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to deliberate on innovative strategies, legal instruments, and collaborative solutions aimed at addressing traffic challenges and improving road safety in the state.
Representing the Speaker, Hon. Ogundipe reiterated the Lagos State House of Assembly’s unwavering support for legislation that strengthens transportation systems and enhances the capacity and welfare of LASTMA officers.
“The Lagos State House of Assembly is committed to backing initiatives that will modernize our traffic systems, improve officer welfare, and ensure efficient and safe roads for all Lagosians,” Hon. Ogundipe stated.
The conference featured multiple panel sessions, with presentations from technocrats, legal practitioners, transport experts, and senior government officials. Key discussion points included the use of technology for real-time traffic monitoring, the role of the private sector in traffic management, officer development, and improved institutional synergy.
Hon. Ogundipe commended LASTMA for its 25 years of dedicated service to Lagos, noting the authority’s crucial role in maintaining traffic order in Africa’s most populous city. He emphasized the need for sustained innovation and policy backing to keep pace with Lagos’s growing urban demands.
“This milestone celebration reminds us of how far we’ve come and how much more we must do. Our people deserve roads that are safe, smart, and efficiently managed. The House stands ready to provide the legislative muscle to make that vision a reality,” he concluded.
