The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in partnership with Ford Foundation, has inducted 300 students from Education District V into the Kings and Queens Club following weeks of orientation against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
Executive Secretary, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, represented by Programs Officer Zainab Alaka, noted that the initiative aims to dismantle socio-cultural misconceptions and build a peer-led network of students advocating for gender equality, positive expressions of masculinity and femininity, and attitudinal change within their schools.
She emphasized that participants are equipped with knowledge to challenge myths surrounding SGBV, while also understanding their role in breaking the culture of silence that allows abuse to persist.
Head of Community Engagement and Project Coordinator, Mr. Damilare Adewusi, reiterated the State Government’s zero-tolerance policy on SGBV. He urged students to report any abuse they witness or experience and to become disciplined, vocal advocates for change in their communities.
Teachers and students commended the initiative, describing it as transformational. Ayomide Amoo of Araromi Ilogbo Secondary School noted the club taught him how to be a positive force, while Efe Heaven from Ajara Senior Grammar School pledged to continue as a peer advocate.
After taking the pledge, students received certificates and ID cards.
To date, over 7,400 students have been inducted across Lagos.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to embed prevention strategies into the education system and equip children with tools for safeguarding and protection.
