Comptroller Adenuga Takes Over at Seme, Pledges Open-Door Policy to Boost Trade

Comptroller Wale Adenuga has taken over as the new Customs Area Controller of Seme Area Command, promising to maintain an open-door policy to enhance cross-border trade.

During the official handover ceremony at the Seme–Krake Joint Border Post on Monday, 8 September 2025, Comptroller Adenuga promised an inclusive leadership style that would build on existing achievements while enhancing the command’s role in regional trade facilitation.

“I want to thank everyone for a job well done. I am here to familiarise myself with you, and we will discuss collectively what we can do differently from what is on the ground. With my coming, my goal is to work with stakeholders and sister security agencies to ensure that the Seme border becomes the best across West Africa and a pride to everyone”, he said.

Comptroller Adenuga expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, for entrusting him with the leadership of the strategic border command, assuring that Seme would remain a standardised and seamless trade hub for compliant stakeholders.

The outgoing Customs Area Controller, now elevated to Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG), Ben Oramalugo, described the ceremony as a moment of “mixed emotions” as he reflected on the challenges and achievements of his tenure.

“With my dedicated officers and men, remarkable successes were recorded. We secured this strategic border against the menace of smuggling and seized several prohibited goods to protect our economy and our people”, Oramalugo noted.

He highlighted improved revenue collections that contributed significantly to the Service’s overall performance, as well as strengthened relationships with host communities, sister agencies, and traditional institutions. “We also prioritised capacity-building for officers through training and professional development."

ACG Oramalugo urged officers and stakeholders to extend even greater support to his successor, stressing that the Service’s mission must always precede personal interests.

Goodwill messages were sent from stakeholders and community representatives, who commended the ACG's leadership and expressed confidence in Comptroller Adenuga’s ability to consolidate the command’s progress.
