The Member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-01 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode (OMOJ’OMOLO), has called on government institutions, agencies, and individuals to cultivate the culture of proper record keeping as a safeguard against historical distortions.
Hon. Ogundipe made this charge on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) office in Magodo, Lagos, during the agency’s Award Celebration to mark the 2025 International Archives Day.
Speaking at the event, the lawmaker emphasized that history must be carefully documented and preserved to protect future generations from misinformation, misrepresentation, and disputes over heritage.
“If proper records are kept and our history is preserved, there won’t be room for anyone to have the audacity to call another people’s territory ‘no man’s land,’” Hon. Ogundipe declared.
He stressed that archives remain the backbone of collective memory, governance accountability, and cultural continuity, noting that record-keeping should not be seen as optional but as a civic responsibility.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of LASRAB, Ms. Oluwatoyin Ogunlana, reiterated the Bureau’s commitment to promoting effective archival practices in Lagos State. She noted that preserving historical records secures both the past and the future, providing guidance in times of uncertainty and eventuality.
According to Ms. Ogunlana, LASRAB remains committed to raising awareness about the role of archives in shaping informed decision-making, institutional continuity, and heritage protection.
The 2025 edition of International Archives Day was marked with the theme “Preserving Our Past, Securing Our Future.” LASRAB used the occasion to:
Celebrate the importance of archives preservation and proper management for accountability and transparency.

In her remarks, Ms. Ogunlana reminded stakeholders that archives are not merely about preserving the past but are foundational to building a better and more secure future.
