In a remarkable act of gratitude and community spirit, the 1985 graduating class of Ewutuntun Senior Secondary School, Mafoluku-Oshodi, commemorated their 40th anniversary by donating a newly refurbished administrative building and four fully furnished classrooms to their alma mater.
The handover ceremony, held on the school premises, brought together dignitaries, educators, traditional leaders, and members of the pioneer set, celebrating the enduring legacy of the institution and its alumni.
Representing the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Honourable Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, commended the alumni for their unwavering commitment to educational development. “This act of generosity is a testament to the values instilled by the school and the vision of its founders,” she stated.
Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuff, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District VI, encouraged students to embrace discipline and service. “Do better with yourself so you can do better for society. The future is no longer tomorrow, it starts today,” she advised.
Otunba Adekunle Jaiyesimi, Chairman of the 1985 set, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Alhaji Wasiu Balogun, Chairman of the Planning Committee, for his pivotal role in the project’s completion. “This gift is not about the structure or cement; it is about legacy and giving back to the school that shaped us,” Jaiyesimi remarked.
The legacy of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, whose vision of free education laid the foundation for institutions like Ewutuntun, was also honored.
The commissioning ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting led by HRM Elewu of Ewuland, Oba Shakirudeen Adeshina Kuti, Mrs. Dokunmu-Adegbite, Mrs. Yusuff, and members of the 1985 set.
The newly inaugurated facilities include a modern administrative building, new Principal’s Office, Four well-equipped classrooms for senior secondary students, and Five desktop computers and a printer to support digital learning.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the best SS1 student at the recent Education District VI Merit Award Ceremony, symbolizing the bright future the donation aims to inspire.
