LAGOS DSVA RECORDS 41 CASES OF TECHNOLOGY - FACILITATED SGBV

… Launches Targeted Advocacy Against Emerging Menace

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has announced the documentation of 41 distinct cases of Technology-Facilitated Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (TFSGBV), underscoring a critical and emerging threat within the state.

In a decisive response to this trend, the agency today launched a proactive sensitisation programme for secondary school students.
The advocacy event, themed "Technology and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV)," engaged students from District V. Participating schools included Ojo Senior High School, Ojo Junior High School, Community Senior and Junior Secondary School, and Lagos State Senior and Junior Model College, Ojo. The students were accompanied by their Teachers and the District Counsellor.

The programme commenced with formal opening proceedings, followed by a welcome address delivered by Ms. Adetoun Odumbo and Mr. Damilare Adewusi, representatives of the Executive Secretary of the DSVA, Mrs. Lola Adeniyi Vivour-Adeniyi.

In his address, Mr. Adewusi underscored the urgent need for digital responsibility and vigilance. He highlighted the Agency's growing caseload and empowered the students to act as ambassadors for change, charging them to spread awareness about technology-related SGBV within their schools and communities.

The session featured an interactive discussion designed to educate and equip the students. Mr. Damilare Adewusi, Head of the Community Engagement Unit, served as the primary facilitator.

He provided a detailed exposition on the various forms of TFSGBV, elucidating concepts such as cyberbullying, image-based abuse, online grooming, and digital harassment.

A key component of the presentation was reinforcing the availability of the DSVA’s toll-free line as a critical, confidential resource for reporting incidents and seeking support.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Adeoti, representing the District Counsellor. She extended gratitude to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency for its timely intervention and commended the students for their attentive and active participation.

This initiative reaffirms the Lagos State Government’s commitment, through the DSVA, to its zero-tolerance policy against all forms of sexual and gender-based violence, adapting its strategies to combat evolving digital threats.
