The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) participated in the IITA–GHU Strategic Workshop on Germplasm Exchange and Emerging Plant Health Threats held from 27th–29th October 2025 at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan.
The workshop brought together staff and officers from NAQS and IITA to strengthen collaboration on safe germplasm exchange, plant health diagnostics, and biosecurity measures aimed at mitigating the spread of emerging pests and diseases.
During the session, the Comptroller-General of NAQS, Dr. Vincent Isegbe, emphasized the importance of phytosanitary safeguards in ensuring Nigeria’s readiness for global germplasm and plant material exchange.
He also encouraged NAQS officers to take advantage of any invitation from IITA, noting that the institute has the technical competence to advance agricultural research, while NAQS, as a regulator, will continue to partner with IITA to promote plant health and biosecurity in Nigeria.
This partnership underscores NAQS’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s agricultural economy through science-based quarantine practices and international cooperation.
