WAPA EMPOWERS FEMALE-FOCUSED NGOs THROUGH GRANT-IN-AID PROGRAMME

The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, has presented financial grants totalling ₦12.5 million to 50 female-focused Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) registered with the Ministry, in recognition of their contributions to women’s empowerment, skills acquisition, and social welfare across the State.

The event, which was held today at the WAPA Conference Room, Alausa, Ikeja, brought together representatives of  registered WAPA female focused NGOs, Directors of the Ministry, and other stakeholders committed to advancing the welfare of women and vulnerable groups in Lagos State.

In her address, the Honourable Commissioner, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to supporting credible organisations whose activities align with the vision of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to uplift women and eradicate poverty through empowerment and inclusion. She noted that the Grant-in-Aid initiative remains a vital component of the Ministry’s ongoing strategy to strengthen collaboration between government and the non-governmental sector for greater social impact.
According to her, “The Lagos State Government recognizes the invaluable role NGOs play in complementing our efforts to improve the lives of women and families. Today’s grant is not just financial support; it is an investment in your dedication, compassion, and service to humanity.”

The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo, commended the beneficiaries for their consistent commitment to community service. She encouraged them to continue implementing impactful programmes that directly improve the socio-economic wellbeing of women and young girls, emphasising that true development thrives on collaboration and compassion.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Folayemisi Adu, Executive Director, Hope Builders Skills Development and Acquisition Foundation, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Honourable Commissioner, and the entire WAPA team for their unwavering support of NGOs working at the grassroots. She pledged that the grants would be judiciously utilized to sustain ongoing initiatives that empower women and promote society.
