Customs Decorates Newly Promoted Officers

…As CGC Calls for Mentorship Among Senior Officers

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on 27 November 2025, decorated its newly elevated senior officers, following the recent approval of their appointments by the Nigeria Customs Service Board.

The ceremony, held at the NCS Headquarters auditorium, marked the decoration of five newly appointed Deputy Comptroller-Generals of Customs: Baba Imam, Isah Umar, Tijjani Abe, Timi Bomodi, and Oluyomi Adebakin. Their elevation comes after the retirement of key senior officers and is expected to strengthen strategic leadership across customs commands nationwide.

Also decorated were eight newly appointed Assistant Comptroller-Generals of Customs: CG Ogbonna, I  Abba-Aji, GM Haruna, EJ Edelduok, G Gaura, I Isyaku, MS Shuaibu, and MD Malah. Their appointments are projected to enhance policy execution, compliance management, and operational efficiency within the Service.

In addition, ten officers received special promotions in recognition of exceptional hard work, professionalism, and remarkable contributions to national revenue, enforcement, and administrative excellence. The Board noted that the selected officers demonstrated outstanding impact in their various commands and units.
Welcoming the newly promoted officers and their families, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, congratulated them and urged them to always uphold the integrity of the Service. He reminded them that they represent the face of the institution and must remain responsible, professional, and resistant to pressure.

"It is my prayer that this new set of officers will fulfil their obligations and live up to the challenge given to them. Decisions will be taken as members of management. And when they're taken, irrespective of differences during the build-up to such decisions, they now become the decisions of everybody," the CGC remarked.

"We're also very vulnerable to pressures at this level from outside the Service. This is the time for us to see the Service as our own. This is the time for us to stand up for whatever value we have created for ourselves," he added.

The CGC also highlighted the importance of special promotions, encouraging officers who were not recognised this year to remain steadfast. He noted that genuine dedication and positive impact never go unnoticed, assuring them that recognition will come at the right time.

Addressing the newly elevated senior officers, he emphasised the need for mentorship, urging them to guide and transfer knowledge to junior officers to further strengthen institutional capacity.

The NCS reaffirmed that these appointments reflect its commitment to rewarding merit, improving leadership quality, and enhancing operational effectiveness across all levels of the Service.
