A Lagos-based medical doctor, Dr. Femi Olaleye, who was previously convicted by a Lagos High Court, but later acquitted by the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, has reportedly been arrested in London, United Kingdom, for alleged sexual offences said to have occurred before his relocation to Nigeria several years ago.
A credible source revealed that Dr. Olaleye was allegedly picked up on Tuesday at Heathrow Airport and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Dr. Olaleye was convicted in 2023 by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court. However, the Court of Appeal overturned the judgment, setting him free.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, subsequently filed an appeal at the Supreme Court seeking to reinstate the High Court’s verdict. A hearing date is yet to be fixed.
Sources in the UK alleged that the doctor had been linked to multiple sexual offences during his time in London but reportedly left the country before he could be prosecuted.
He later faced similar allegations in Nigeria, leading to his initial conviction, subsequent acquittal, and eventual departure from the country shortly after the appellate court ruling.
He is currently being held at North Kent Police Station,Thames Way,North fleet,Kent pending arraignment
