Lagos Serves As Epic Center of Sports, Encourages Collaboration To deepen Development In Nigeria - Fatodu

The Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, has described Lagos State as the epic center of sports development and collaboration as the state is working assiduously in promoting inclusivity across the disciplines.

Speaking at the courtesy visit from the members of team Nigeria Women’s Rugby who represented Nigeria at the World Cup Qualifiers in Canada led by the Chairman Nigeria Rugby League Association, Abiodun Olawale Cole at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Conference Room, Surulere, Lagos.

Fatodu lauded the team for their dedication, resilience, and the role they played in inspiring young girls to pursue sports professionally.

 “The collaborative strategies aimed at improving infrastructure, talent development, and grassroots participation in rugby within Lagos” he noted. 

Olawale Cole explained that the essence of the visit is to appreciate the Lagos State Sports Commissions’ support before the Green Falcons departure to the World Cup qualifiers in Canada.
Cole stated that the the grass will be greener in future with the right support in promoting women rugby in the country, adding that a lot of Games are lined up in Lagos for Year 2026 and with support of the Lagos State  Sports Commission, everything will be in order.

Captain of the Green Falcons, Nigeria Rugby League, Aladeyelu Blessing Funmilayo, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed the team’s commitment to representing Nigeria with pride in upcoming competitions.

This courtesy visit marks another step in the state’s ongoing efforts to promote gender inclusivity and excellence in sports, ensuring that athletes receive the recognition and support they deserve.
