LAGOS STATE POLICE WOMEN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LAGOS DSVA MARK 70 YEARS OF WOMEN IN POLICING WITH 5KM WALK AGAINST GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

The women of the Lagos State Police Command, on Saturday 29th November 2025, held a 5km walkathon against Gender-Based Violence in partnership with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency. The event formed part of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of Nigeria Police Women, a milestone that celebrates seven decades of courage, resilience and dedicated service.

Female officers turned out in large numbers to raise awareness on the impact of Gender-Based Violence and to highlight the achievements and growing leadership of women in the Nigeria Police Force. The walk also reinforced the command’s commitment to protecting citizens and promoting gender equality within the force.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the contributions of female officers and pledged stronger institutional support. He noted that SGBV remains a serious criminal issue that will be investigated and prosecuted, urging the public to speak out and take action. He also emphasised the increasing number of women serving in leadership roles such as Divisional Police Officers.

The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, encouraged female officers to report any form of abuse and stressed that violence can affect anyone regardless of profession or class. She reaffirmed the agency’s partnership with the police in promoting ethics, accountability and support for survivors within the force.

The Lagos State Police Command and the DSVA reaffirms their shared commitment to building safer communities through awareness, accountability and survivor centered support. The walkathon not only honoured the legacy of the women who paved the way in policing but also strengthened ongoing efforts to ensure that every resident of Lagos can live free from violence.
