Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency-01, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode (Omoj’Omolo), has described discipline and leadership training as the greatest gifts Baptist Boys High School (BBHS), Abeokuta, imparted to its students.
He made the remarks during the 40th Anniversary Reunion of the BBHS 1985 Set, held at the Alake Hall, Abeokuta Club, IBB Boulevard, where Old Boys gathered to celebrate decades of friendship, heritage, and the enduring legacy of their alma mater.
Speaking on the reunion theme, “The Impact of BBHS on Our Lives,” Hon. Ogundipe said that the formative years spent at BBHS laid the foundation for the successes many Old Boys enjoy today in public service, governance, entrepreneurship, professional practice, and community development.
According to him, “BBHS instilled in us a discipline that was firm, uncompromising, and foundational. It taught us that excellence is intentional and that character is the backbone of achievement.”
The lawmaker added that BBHS was not only focused on academics but emphasized building leaders through various platforms such as prefectship, club administration, sports, team projects, and moral instruction.
“Every BBHS boy was groomed to lead,” he said. “We learned responsibility, accountability, courage, and service; qualities that continue to define us as influencers and change agents across society.”
He further highlighted that the school’s moral grounding, intellectual rigor, and strong sense of brotherhood have remained distinguishing attributes of BBHS Old Boys around the world.
Hon. Ogundipe, who also serves as the Chairman of the Lagos State House Committee on Information, Strategy & Security, reflected on how the school shaped his own journey in public service.
“The discipline, confidence, leadership training, and integrity I carry today were nurtured at BBHS,” he said. “Everything I am in public service sits on the strong foundation laid within those walls.”
He called on alumni to continue supporting the institution through mentorship, infrastructure development, scholarships, and strategic partnerships to preserve the school’s legacy for future generations.
The reunion featured reflections, roll calls, goodwill messages, and renewed commitment to sustaining the heritage of the iconic institution, which has produced notable figures including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the late MKO Abiola.
The event ended with a reaffirmation of the enduring bond that binds every BBHS Old Boy, a bond founded on discipline, leadership, faith, and brotherhood.
