Leading smartphone manufacturer, Tecno Mobile, has donated a state-of-the-art astroturf stadium to Lagos State through a collaborative endeavour with the Lagos State Sports Commission, reinforcing the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to grassroots sports development and youth empowerment.
The facility, named the Sanwo-Olu Mini Stadium by Tecno, was commissioned yesterday in the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) amid fanfare and celebration.
The commissioning ceremony featured a symbolic name unveiling and ribbon cutting, followed by two novelty football matches, Lagos State vs Tecno and Sura Community vs Okesuna Community. These matches brought together government officials, corporate representatives, and community teams in a display of sportsmanship and unity.
The Lagos State team included Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, Hon. Commissioner for Youth and Social Development and Mr Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission and Hon. Lanre Afinni, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly amonsgt other notable names that represented Team Lagos at the facility launch novelty match against Team Tecno.
Speaking at the commissioning, Mr Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, described the facility as a game changer for grassroots sports development in Lagos State.
“The Sanwo-Olu Mini Stadium by Tecno is a statement of intent from the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration that every community in Lagos deserves access to world-class sports infrastructure,” Fatodu said.
“We are grateful to Tecno for their strategic investment in sports and for demonstrating that corporate success and social responsibility can go hand in hand. This facility will serve as a talent incubator, a community hub, and a clear example of what becomes possible when government and the private sector work together with a shared vision.”
