The Comptroller Immigration Service (CIS), FCT, Madam Sharifat Ronke Ibrahim, has called for the reinforcement of the existing collaboration between the Service and INEC for a greater security in the February, 2026 FCT Area Council Election.
The CIS made this call when she paid a working visit to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC-FCT Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris, on Friday 5th December 2025. Madam Ibrahim, at the visit, expressed satisfaction that the long working relationship between the two government agencies had helped in the past to mitigate election related insecurity in the FCT.
She noted that the NIS reforms, with the resultant increase in the digitalization of its operations, have positioned the Immigration Service to do more, even as preparations for Area Council Election get underway.
The CIS also highlighted the Immigration Service's mandate to profile and identify non Nigerian nationals, and offered the Service's support to the Commission to help prevent non Nigerian citizens' participation in CVR exercise and PVCs collection in the FCT.
Responding, the Resident Electoral Commissioner thanked the CIS and her team for the visit. He said that the Commission has benefited immensely from the support of the Immigration Service as a security agency, and also within the framework of the Inter- Agency Committee on Election Security. He assured that his office will promptly attend to the CIS's request for the deployment of the Service's operatives to the Commission's offices during PVCs collection in the FCT.
The meeting, which had in attendance top management from both FCT INEC and FCT Immigration Service, had as its highlights the presentation of voter education materials to the visiting CIS and group photographs.
