Fatodu Reels Out Activities as LSSC Moves To deepen Talent Identification, Development

The Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, has disclosed that the commission’s programmes are strategically designed to strengthen talent identification and development, as part of a broader agenda for sustainable sports growth in the state.

Fatodu made this known during a strategic meeting with Heads of Departments and Units at the Conference Room of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

According to him, while the commission has recorded commendable progress, there is room for greater achievement through renewed commitment, innovation, and a deeper interrogation of emerging ideas and trends in sports development.

“It has been good so far, but it can be better. It can be better through our collective efforts, commitment, and determination to explore new ideas and trends for the betterment and progress of an institution of this nature,” Fatodu said.

He noted that the milestone achievements recorded in the previous year reflect the commission’s strength, attributing the success to the presence of competent and dedicated professionals capable of driving meaningful change.

Highlighting key activities lined up for 2026, Fatodu revealed that Lagos State is set to host the inaugural Intermediate Games, adding that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains deeply committed to programmes and initiatives that empower youths and provide platforms for healthy competition.

The Director-General also stated that the commission will intensify preparations for grassroots and community-based programmes, including the National Para Games and the annual National Youth Games. He assured that athletes career progression and welfare will be prioritized, while senior athletes are expected to be properly inaugurated.

Fatodu explained that coaches performances will be closely monitored through clearly defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), particularly in talent identification, athlete growth, and overall contribution to sports development.

He further disclosed that the commission will strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Education, stressing that school sports remain a critical foundation for talent discovery and long-term sports development.

Fatodu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to prioritising grassroots talent identification and development, while providing adequate platforms for young athletes to showcase and harness their inherent abilities.
