The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 (Lagos and Ogun States), AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has declared that state policing in Nigeria is no longer a distant concept but an unfolding reality, expressing confidence that its implementation will strengthen grassroots security and public ownership of policing..

Speaking at the ongoing 2-day statewide security training organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF in Lagos, Jimoh said recent developments under the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, have set the stage for a smooth transition.

“State Police have come to stay. IGP Disu has set up the necessary committee, and we are very optimistic it will be successful without conflict between state and federal structures,” he said. “It will bring policing closer to the people and make communities take ownership of their security.”

Highlighting Lagos as a model, AIG Jimoh noted that elements of state policing are already evident through the coordinated security framework driven by LSSTF. “State policing is already unfolding in Lagos, considering the level of synergy being coordinated,” he added.
He further made a bold claim on security gains in the state: “In Lagos, the issue of kidnapping is zero. I say this confidently because of the strong coordination between the Police, the military, and other service agencies.”

The LSSTF training programme drew participants from a wide range of agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Immigration Service, NDLEA, NCCSALW, NSCDC, FRSC, LASTMA, Marine Police, LNSA and the RRS among others.
