BROADCASTING AWARDS: OMOTOSO COMMENDS EKO FM, RADIO LAGOS ON RECORD-BREAKING ACHIEVEMENT

 

… Says Recognition Will Further Boost Confidence in Profession 

The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso has commended 

Radio Lagos and Eko FM for their record-breaking six awards achievement at the prestigious Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) organised by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), where the stations clinched victories across six categories, saying it would further boost confidence in the broadcasting profession.

He gave the commendation when  a delegation from the stations led by its General Manager, Mr. Olajide Lawal presented the awards to the top management staff of the Ministry on Monday.

While applauding the stations, he stated that the visit of the delegation was an exciting moment for him because every journalist knows the worth of an award. "This recognition from the apex body of your profession is an amazing testament to your work and as we say in Lagos, the reward for hard work is more work. On behalf of Mr. Governor, I congratulate you and will relay your message to Mr. Governor whom you know is media-friendly", he said.

Omotoso averred that it's gratifying to note that the efforts the management of the stations put into their work are not wasted, which would be an encouragement for Mr. Governor to do more as these awards would further boost confidence in the broadcasting profession, adding that the recognition is remarkable and promised that they would be rewarded in due course.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Lanre Bajulaiye  congratulated the Agency for clinching the awards. "This is an opportunity to thank Mr. Governor for his tremendous support for the stations. These wins also underscore the reason why we tell MDAs to patronise state-owned media agencies because of their large audience. 

He, therefore, appealed to the Honourable Commissioner to help further amplify the recognition at the executive level of government.

Earlier, the General Manager, EKO FM / Radio Lagos, Mr. Olajide Lawal, while presenting the six awards to the Honourable Commissioner, revealed that the stations won in six categories including Radio Station of the Year, Best Radio Station - News (English Language), Best Radio Station - News (Indigenous Language) and Best Radio Station - Original Production in Business, Drama and Sports (English Language) 

Others are Best Radio Station - Original Production In Business, Drama and Sports (Indigenous Language), Newscaster of the Year, Gbenga Alli-Balogun, and Reporter of the Year, Titi Adeaga.

Lawal further stated that the stations couldn't have achieved the recognition without the visionary leadership and support of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

"Let me also thank the Honourable Commission for your support and guidance. I also thank most profoundly the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lanre Bajulaiye. As we are not unmindful of our saying in Lagos, that the result of hard work is more work. Therefore, these awards would spur us to continue to work hard to sustain the tempo of excellence and professionalism the stations are known for", he added.

The visiting delegation comprised the General Manager, Mr. Olajide Lawal; Director of News, Tosin Odusola; Director of Programmes, Modupeola Adaju; Director of Language, Yomi Oyebade, Director of ICT, Niran Adegoke; Head of Presentation, Funmi Omoboriowo and Gbenga Alli-Balogun from the News Centre, among others.

The top management staff from the Ministry of Information and Strategy included Director of Strategy Centre, Mr. Kayode Oyekanmi; Director of Public Enlightenment and Community Relations, Mr. Tayo Ogunbiyi and Director of Social Media, Dr. Jide Atansuyi.

With six awards to their credit, Eko FM and Radio Lagos have set a new benchmark for broadcasting excellence, reinforcing their role as trusted voices in Nigerian media.
