In continuation of the Agency’s zero-tolerance stance on criminal elements in the State, particularly street urchins popularly known as “Omotaku,” area boys, and other criminal elements, the Agency today arrested several Omotaku boys at Marwa Bus Stop in the Lekki area of the State.
At the point of arrest, a truck driver with a broken-down vehicle was confronted by suspected Omotaku boys, who attempted to extort him. They threatened to remove his vehicle battery, side mirrors, and jack, while demanding his phone and money to settle them.
According to the Taskforce in a press release signed by
Gbadeyan Abdulraheem,it's
Director of Public Affairs,
operatives, who were on routine monitoring patrol and acting on intelligence, responded swiftly and apprehended all the suspects in connection with the crime.
The corridor had earlier been flagged by concerned motorists and residents due to recurring cases of theft, extortion, and harassment by these street urchins known as Omotaku. Consequently, the Agency took the bull by the horn and raided the area to curb these criminal activities.
The second phase of the operation, which commenced on Monday and was coordinated by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, forms part of the ongoing efforts to enforce the Agency’s zero tolerance for criminality in the State.
The situation was brought under control, and sanity has been restored across the affected areas.
All suspects will be charged to court in line with the Lagos State Special Offences Law.
