The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Lagos channel 10, paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dopemu, Lagos to strengthen collaboration on public enlightenment programmes.
The State Director, Dr. Mustafa Adedeji Tukur, received the team and introduced the management staff present. He stated that NOA is responsible for sensitizing the public on government policies, mobilizing citizens at the grassroots, and serving as a feedback mechanism between the government and the people. He added that the Agency also collates reports on people’s reactions to government policies, programmes, and activities.
The NTA team, led by Mrs. Okafor Nkechi, Assistant Director Programmes, stated that the purpose of the visit was to promote government policies and work in partnership with NOA. She also highlighted areas where NOA could collaborate with NTA, including content development, grassroots sensitization, the use of media platforms, and the production of jingles, news, and interview segments.
In her contribution, Mrs. Nkem Okibe, Manager, Programmes, emphasized the need for grassroots-oriented programmes and training to enhance effective programme delivery.
The State Director further advised that NOA would continue to work with Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs) to effectively reach the grassroots. He further stated that NOA National Headquarters would be duly notified regarding the production of jingles and other requisite materials necessary to facilitate a successful collaboration.
An interview session was later conducted with the State Director by Mrs. Wale-Eri Iyabo, Assistant Manager News.
Speaking on patriotism, Dr. Tukur said that a patriotic citizen is someone who upholds commitment to the nation and is ready to play their part in moving Nigeria forward. He further explained that patriotism involves obedience to laws, payment of taxes, and commitment to national development. He added that a lack of patriotism negatively affects Nigeria’s international image. He also referenced the National Values Charter (NVC) and other programmes organized by the Agency to inculcate the spirit of patriotism.
On the ongoing voters validation exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he explained that it is meant for those who have attained 18 years of age, those who have changed location, and those with lost or damaged voter cards. He added that NOA is mobilizing citizens across local government areas.
On the fast approaching elections, he urged Nigerians to participate actively, describing voting as a civic responsibility. He also advised citizens to maintain peace before, during, and after elections.
The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between NTA Lagos and NOA in promoting civic education and ensuring the effective dissemination of government policies to the grassroots.
