Sanwo-olu Commissions UNILAG Geoscience Centre of Excellence

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu, CON, has commissioned the state-of-the-art Geosciences Building to the delight of University of Lagos management, distinguished guests, staff and students. 

The governor, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule Akibu, commissioned the iconic building alongside the Group Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Mr. Ronald Adams and top executives of NNPC LIMITED, Nigerian Content Development,  Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and management of the University. 

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola, OON, in her welcome speech commended the donor, SNEPCo and assured that although the building transversed so many  administrations in the university, it will continually be treasured and effectively utilised by many generations to come. 
President Worldwide, University of Lagos Alumni Association, Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele, FAEng was represented by National Secretary, Barr. Adebayo Osikoya in company of the former National Secretary, Dr. Aaron Akinloye and acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Seun Badejo.

Also present was Chief Anthony Aletor, insurance mogul and Chairman, Capital Express Holdings Ltd. 

Prof. Ayolabi Elijah, Vice Chancellor, Mountain Top University, in his goodwill message gave a detailed history of the project from its conception in 2003 till the completion, narrating how he made every effort to ensure that SNEPCo funded the project. 

After the commissioning, the Vice Chancellor took the August visitors on a tour of the building to see the facilities therein. 

Situated behind King Jaja Hall, the project gives a beautiful view of the Senate Building from its front elevation. It consists of classrooms and hi-tech ultramodern laboratories which will aid learning and research in geosciences and geology.
