CLEANACE, MTN FOUNDATION EMPOWER PWDS WITH FABRIC CARE SKILLS IN LAGOS

The CleanAce Foundation and Academy, in partnership with the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and MTN Foundation, has launched the MTN-CleanAce Inclusive Fabricare Skills Empowerment Programme aimed at equipping Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), especially those with hearing impairments, with professional laundry and dry-cleaning skills.

The initiative was unveiled during a press briefing held on Tuesday, 22nd June 2026 at the CleanAce Foundation & Academy Training Facility, Isheri Estate, OPIC, Lagos

The programme is designed to provide participants with technical skills in fabric care, entrepreneurship development, certification, and structured placement support to enable them to become self-reliant and economically empowered.

Speaking at the event, the Founder of CleanAce Foundation and Academy, Mr Enibukun Adebayo, said the initiative was developed to address the barriers faced by many Persons with Disabilities across Nigeria.

Adebayo stated that despite the large population of PWDs in the country, many still encounter challenges due to limited access to opportunities and facilities that accommodate their needs.

He said, “Across Nigeria, we have a large number of Persons with Disabilities who face different barriers. Many times, their needs are not considered when facilities and opportunities are being created.

“This programme is aimed at changing that narrative by providing them with practical skills, confidence, certification, and opportunities that will help them become financially independent.”

He added that the collaboration with LASODA and MTN Foundation would create a platform for beneficiaries to acquire globally relevant skills and build sustainable careers in the fabric care industry.

Representing the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs Omolade Sonubi, appreciated CleanAce Foundation, MTN Foundation, and other partners for their commitment towards promoting inclusion and economic empowerment for Persons with Disabilities in Lagos State.

She said the programme aligns with LASODA’s mandate of supporting disability inclusion, advocacy, and improved access to opportunities for PWDs.

A beneficiary of the initiative, Moses Peter Aba, also shared his experience, stating that the training he received from CleanAce Foundation had equipped him with valuable fabric care skills and increased his confidence towards achieving self-reliance.

Interested applicants must reside in Lagos State, possess LASRRA registration, be identified by LASODA or partner organisations, and have at least a secondary school certificate.

The event was attended by stakeholders, including the Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of the Association of Sign Language Interpreters Nigeria, Mr. Olubowale Shodiende; Founder of Friends of the Deaf International Foundation, Mrs. Funmi Ogunro; and representative of MTN Foundation, Mr. Edward Fagbohun.
