Lagos Police Rescue 38 Foreigners from Mob, Intercept Sacks of Military Camouflage Heading South-East

The Lagos State Police Command recorded a massive wave of operational breakthroughs in June 2026, busting transnational networks, arresting a flurry of violent criminals, and seizing a heavy haul of military contraband and illicit drugs.

Briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, revealed that the month's aggressive, intelligence-led crackdown had left Lagos increasingly hostile to criminal elements.

The June Seizure Tally
The Command’s proactive operations netted a substantial stash of incriminating exhibits, including:
14 firearms and four live cartridges.
47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances.
51 mobile phones and two vehicle engine control units ("brain boxes").
One MAN diesel truck and an operational motorcycle.
Vandalized electrical cables and other stolen properties.
Major Breakthroughs & Interceptions
1. Transnational Contraband & Fake Soldiers
In one of the month’s most significant operations, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted an unregistered MAN diesel truck loaded with 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs. Investigations revealed the contraband was bound for the South-East region. Additionally, the Command arrested two suspected fake soldiers caught wearing military uniforms, recovering a pump-action gun from them.
2. Rescue of 38 Foreign Nationals
Police units swiftly intervened in Epe to rescue 38 foreign nationals from potential mob violence. The group comprised citizens from Chad, Burkina Faso, Benin Republic, Mali, Togo, Cameroon, and Ghana. While preliminary findings showed that 18 held valid ECOWAS travel documents, 20 had entered the country illegally. The individuals have been transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and their respective diplomatic missions.
3. Critical Infrastructure Protection & "One Chance" Busts
Two cable vandals were caught red-handed ripping electric cables off the Third Mainland Bridge, and efforts are underway to hunt down the rest of their syndicate. The police also dealt a severe blow to notorious "One Chance" robbery syndicates by arresting a key operative and recovering 51 stolen mobile phones.
4. Arms Recovery at Church Site & Local Gangs
Following a theft report at a church construction site in Ayetoro-Ijanikin, a raid led to the recovery of two double-barrel guns and six locally made single-barrel guns, which have been transferred to the State CID, Panti. Other localized crackdowns in Festac Town, Ilupeju, and Ipaja resulted in the arrest of armed robbers, car part thieves, and cultists belonging to the Eiye and Alora confraternities.
"There will be no safe haven for criminal elements within Lagos State. We urge residents to continue partnering with the police by providing timely, useful and credible information that will support crime prevention and effective law enforcement."
— CP Fatai Tijani
CP Tijani assured the public that all suspects currently in custody are undergoing thorough investigations and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
