Theme: Engineering Innovation for Enhanced Security and Sustainable National Development
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has officially inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2026 NSE International Conference and Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The inauguration was performed on behalf of the President of the NSE by Engr. Mohammed Bashir Shettima, FNSE, Chairman of the NSE Maiduguri Branch. The event was witnessed by Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori, FNSE, Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee (CPC), the central planning body responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and successful delivery of the conference.
In his remarks, Engr. Mohammed Bashir Shettima, FNSE, conveyed the goodwill and support of the President and leadership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers to the newly inaugurated committee. He charged members of the LOC to work with dedication, unity of purpose, and professionalism to ensure the successful hosting of the conference in Maiduguri.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the appointment of Engr. Mohammed Umar Watsada, FNSE, as Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee. In his acceptance speech, Engr. Watsada expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Society and the Conference Planning Committee for the confidence reposed in him and his team, assuring that the committee would work diligently to justify the trust placed in them and deliver a successful conference.
Speaking at the event, Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori, FNSE, Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee (CPC), described the inauguration of the Local Organizing Committee as a major milestone in the preparations for the Maiduguri 2026 International Conference and Annual General Meeting. He noted that the LOC occupies a strategic position within the conference structure as the operational and implementation arm responsible for coordinating local arrangements and providing the support required for the successful execution of conference activities.
According to him, the Committee will play a critical role in coordinating hospitality, protocol, accommodation support, transportation, volunteer services, stakeholder engagement, social and cultural programmes, local publicity activities, and other operational responsibilities necessary for a world-class conference. He emphasized that the inauguration reflects the commitment of the Nigerian Society of Engineers to early planning, effective coordination, and excellence in conference delivery.
Engr. Wanori commended the leadership of the Society for the confidence reposed in the committee and expressed strong confidence in the ability of Engr. Mohammed Umar Watsada, FNSE, and members of the LOC to successfully discharge their responsibilities. He urged members to work closely with the CPC and other committees while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, dedication, teamwork, and accountability.
He further stated that hosting the International Conference in Maiduguri presents a unique opportunity to showcase the resilience, hospitality, and developmental progress of Borno State to the engineering community and the wider world. He noted that the state has continued to record significant improvements in security, infrastructure, and socio-economic development through the collective efforts of the Government, people of Borno State, security agencies, and development partners.
Engr. Wanori also called on engineers, engineering organizations, industry leaders, development partners, policymakers, academics, and stakeholders from across Nigeria and beyond to begin making plans to attend the conference. He expressed confidence that delegates would experience the warmth, hospitality, and peaceful atmosphere of Maiduguri while participating in a conference designed to advance professional excellence and national development.
He emphasized that the theme of the conference, "Engineering Innovation for Enhanced Security and Sustainable National Development," is timely and relevant, as it seeks to harness the power of engineering innovation in addressing contemporary security challenges while promoting sustainable growth and development. He added that the conference would provide a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, policy dialogue, networking, investment opportunities, and the exchange of ideas capable of driving national transformation.
The decision to host the 2026 NSE International Conference in Maiduguri reflects the Society's confidence in the growing peace, stability, and developmental strides recorded in Borno State.
