One Year After :Accountant Arrested at Lagos Airport Over Alleged ₦150 Million Ikeja Burglary

A 50-year-old accountant, Olusola Ajayi Joshua, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with INTERPOL, more than a year after he allegedly fled Nigeria while under investigation for a major burglary case involving valuables worth over ₦150 million.

According to investigators, the case stems from an alleged burglary incident in Ikeja, Lagos State, where high-value properties and assets reportedly disappeared under circumstances that triggered a criminal investigation.

Police sources disclosed that Joshua had worked for the complainant's late father for approximately 17 years, a relationship that reportedly gave him access to the family and its affairs.

As investigations progressed, authorities alleged that Joshua left Nigeria for Canada in July 2025, while the case was still being actively investigated.

His departure reportedly raised suspicions among investigators, prompting law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to locate and monitor his movements.

Following collaboration between the Zone 2 Police Headquarters and INTERPOL, authorities flagged his international travel records and passport, placing him on the radar of border security agencies.

The breakthrough reportedly came when Joshua returned to Nigeria and arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

Security operatives, acting on intelligence and existing alerts, arrested him immediately upon arrival.

Law enforcement authorities say the arrest marks a significant development in a case that has remained under investigation for over a year.

The suspect is expected to undergo further questioning as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged burglary and determine the extent of his involvement.

Authorities have also indicated that the case will proceed through the appropriate legal channels, with possible prosecution expected upon the conclusion of investigations.

The arrest highlights the increasing role of international law enforcement cooperation in tracking suspects who attempt to leave the country while under investigation.

It also underscores the growing use of intelligence-sharing mechanisms between Nigerian security agencies and international policing organizations to pursue individuals wanted in connection with serious criminal allegations.

As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to provide additional details regarding the alleged burglary, the recovered evidence, and any further suspects who may be connected to the case.
