IGP DISU, NPTF, POWA FLAG OFF MAIDEN SKILLS ACQUISITION AND EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME FOR SPOUSES OF JUNIOR POLICE OFFICERS

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today joined the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) and the Police Officers' Wives Association (POWA) to flag off the Maiden Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme for Spouses of Junior Police Officers at the MD Abubakar Police Barracks, Dei-Dei, Abuja, themed "Empowering Families, Strengthening Communities: Advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda Through Skills Acquisition and Economic Empowerment."

The event, hosted by the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam, CON, was attended by the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu; the National President of POWA, Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu; and beneficiary spouses of junior police officers drawn from across the Force.

In his remarks, IGP Disu described the programme as an investment in the stability and wellbeing of police families, noting that officer welfare cannot be separated from that of their households. He commended the wives of junior officers for the steadfast support that sustains the Force's effectiveness and morale, and urged beneficiaries to treat the resources provided as a foundation for financial independence rather than immediate relief.

In his keynote address, the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu, said the programme reflects the Fund's recognition that economic empowerment of police families is as vital as its investments in training and infrastructure, noting that the vocational skills and start-up packs provided were designed to build sustainable household livelihoods. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda for inspiring the initiative and charged beneficiaries to build businesses that uplift their families and communities.

In her remarks, the National President of POWA, Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, described the initiative as a strategic investment in the Force's morale and professionalism rather than an act of charity, noting that national security begins at home. She pledged POWA's continued partnership with the NPTF to sustain the programme and called on other government agencies and corporate organisations to emulate the initiative.

The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to strengthening the welfare of its personnel and their families, and will continue to partner with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, POWA, and other stakeholders to build stronger police families and a more effective Force nationwide.
