The Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) today, paid a courtesy visit to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, in a bid to strengthen the ongoing partnership between the agencies in the fight against fraudulent practices in the real estate sector.
Speaking at the EFCC premises, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Gbolahan Toriola stated that, the visit was aimed to deepen collaboration between the two government agencies and reinforce mechanisms for identifying and prosecuting persons and organisations engaged in real estate-related fraud, which includes, property flipping, document forgery and other criminal related cases.
During the discussions, it was agreed that, the partnership would help to strengthen enforcement processes and safeguard the interests of the public from malpractices. In his remarks, the Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE) Mr. Adebayo Adeniyi acknowledged that, real estate-related complaints have continued to form a significant share of the cases brought before the Commission, underscoring the importance of sustained inter-agency cooperation.
Both agencies expressed commitment to working closely going forward, combining LASRERA’s regulatory oversight of the real estate sector with the EFCC’s investigative and prosecutorial mandate, in order to sanitise the industry and hold fraudulent estate agents and developers accountable.
The Permanent Secretary, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to continuously engage with relevant Government agencies, which includes, EFCC, in its ongoing programs to regulate, monitor and promote transparency within Lagos State’s real estate industry.
The high point of the event was marked by the presentation of
a commemorative gift by Mr Adebayo Adeniyi to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Gbolahan Toriola, to symbolise the strong partnership and shared commitment of both agencies to combat fraudulent practices in the built sector.
