The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has delivered relief materials to over 1,000 families in Guyaku and Mijilu communities of Gombi and Hong Local Government Areas in Adamawa State, following a deadly Boko Haram attack on April 26, 2026.
The attack claimed lives, displaced hundreds of residents, and destroyed homes and property in the two communities.
As part of its humanitarian response, NEDC provided food items, roofing materials, and essential household supplies to support recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Items distributed include:
- 1,000 bundles of zinc roofing sheets
- 3,000 ceiling boards
- 200 cartons of nails
- 1,000 blankets
- 1,000 branded mats
- 500 bags of 25kg rice
- 240 five-litre containers of vegetable oil
- 200 cartons of spaghetti
The relief materials were formally handed over to Hon. James Barka, Member representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for onward distribution to beneficiaries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Adamawa State Coordinator of NEDC, Barr. Khalifa Muhammad Lawan, represented by Musa Usman Hyeladi, expressed the Commission’s sympathy to the victims. He said the intervention reflects NEDC’s commitment to standing with communities affected by insurgency and helping them rebuild with dignity.
Receiving the items, Hon. Barka commended NEDC for its timely response and pledged transparent and equitable distribution. He also promised to push for more developmental projects to address the root causes of insecurity in the area.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Hon. Rufai of the Adamawa State House of Assembly; Gombi and Hong LGA Chairmen, Mark Ishaya and Aliyu Sa’ad; Alhaji Usman S. Fada; and District Heads of Guyaku and Harga, Yusuf Buba and Idi Bahamman. They praised NEDC and urged residents to remain united and resilient.
The intervention aligns with NEDC’s 10-Year Strategic Master Plan, specifically Pillar One: Peaceful Society, which focuses on security, peacebuilding, social cohesion, and conflict resolution across the North-East.
Beyond immediate relief, NEDC said the initiative is designed to support long-term recovery and strengthen community resilience in areas impacted by conflict.
