NESREA, ECN Meet on Global Clean Hydrogen Programme

 



The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) and the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) have begun discussions on key aspects of the Child project of the Global Clean Hydrogen Programme for Nigeria.


The project aims to enhance national institutional capacities, enabling policy frameworks, improve technological readiness and financial mechanisms for the successful uptake of clean hydrogen in Nigeria.


Under the project,  NESREA, is saddled with the responsibility to identify and  develop a guidebook on international best practices on green hydrogen water and energy access.


The Agency is also to Conduct assessments on the usage of water, land, and energy for hydrogen production, involving local communities and focusing on impacts on women and produce a comprehensive report detailing the implications for hydrogen production in Nigeria.


Representing the Director General of NESREA,  Prof. Innocent Barikor at the meeting, the Director,  Environmental Quality  Control, Mr. Elijah Udofia pledged the commitment of NESREA towards delivering on its responsibility under the project t.


The 5-year project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) under GEF 8 Climate Change Mitigation Initiative, is executed by Energy Commission of Nigeria and has Federal Ministry of Environment/NESREA as key partner.
