A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, marking another significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North-East.
The surrender comes amid a growing wave of defections from terrorist ranks, with 46 terrorists and their family members voluntarily laying down their arms in recent days following sustained land and air offensives against insurgent enclaves across the theatre.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the senior ISWAP operative surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis of the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route.
Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram, where he reportedly coordinated the group’s financial activities, managed logistics, and facilitated the movement of resources used to sustain terrorist operations.
During preliminary debriefing, the suspect was said to have provided useful intelligence on the group’s command structure, funding channels, logistics network, and operational activities. Military authorities said the information is expected to support ongoing intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling ISWAP’s remaining strongholds in the Lake Chad region.
The military also disclosed that a total of 46 terrorists and their family members surrendered at different locations within the theatre of operations. Those who surrendered were screened in accordance with established military procedures, while investigations and profiling are ongoing.
Security analysts say the defection of a senior finance and logistics figure represents a major setback for ISWAP, as financial operatives play a critical role in sustaining terrorist activities through the coordination of funding, procurement of supplies, payment of fighters, and movement of logistics.
Military sources described the latest development as further evidence of the sustained pressure being exerted on terrorist groups through coordinated ground offensives, precision airstrikes, intelligence-led operations, and the disruption of insurgents’ supply routes.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the momentum of ongoing operations until terrorism is decisively defeated.
