Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Auwal Musa Muhammad, ANIPR, mspsp, miacp, psc, has officially assumed duty today, Wednesday, 12th August, 2026, as the 25th Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State. Taking over the mantle of leadership following his successful tenure as the AIG in charge of Zone 6 Headquarters in Calabar, the incoming Commandant steps into his new role with a profound sense of responsibility and a clear vision to elevate the institution into a world-class training ground.
In his heartfelt inaugural address to the officers, staff, and cadets today, AIG AUWAL MUSA expressed his deepest appreciation to the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, for finding him worthy of this vital appointment.
The Commandant pledged to lead the Academy with absolute fairness, making the welfare of personnel and cadets his topmost priority. In return, he passionately charged the institutional community to match this commitment with rigorous discipline, dedication, and strict cleanliness across the campus. He firmly emphasized the need to close all communication gaps to foster real teamwork while warmly praising past Commandants for their sacrifices. He vowed to build seamlessly upon their achievements to collectively launch the Academy to its absolute apex.
AIG AUWAL brings over three decades of deep operational wisdom and a passionate commitment to professional policing since his appointment into the Nigeria Force in 1992 as an assistant superintendent of police. His exceptional career spans high-level operations, complex criminal investigations, intelligence-led policing, and community dispute resolution.
He is also an erodite scholar and a certified train-the-trainer in basic personnel and high-visibility policing tactics. A proud alumnus of Bayero University, Kano, he holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public policy and administration.
His rich tapestry of training has seen him excel in advanced tactical, management, and national security courses at home and abroad. He has sharpened his skills at the Police Staff College in Jos, the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, and the National Defence College in Abuja.
On the global stage, he has trained at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Centre in Ghana, studied Responsible Leadership with the Pointsman Leadership Institute in the USA, attended a prestigious National Security Course at Cranfield University in the UK, and completed specialized financial intelligence training in Rome, Italy.
Prior to this appointment, the Commandant served with distinction in numerous high-profile leadership roles nationwide, including AIG Zone 6 Calabar and Zone 3 Adamawa, and served as the Commissioner of Police for Bauchi State Police Command. His deep institutional experience also includes Commandant Police College Maiduguri, IGP Liaison Officer in National Assembly, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Akwa Ibom, and various postings as a Squadron Commander, Area Commander, and Police Public Relations Officer.
He remains deeply connected to global law enforcement and public relations networks as an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and the Society for Peace Studies and Practice.
