The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR under the leadership of Comrade Debo Adeniran has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Secretary General of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC
CDHR described the late Secretary General as "a tireless fighter for Nigerian workers, a fearless voice for justice, and a steadfast defender of the rights and welfare of the masses".
In a statement signed by Comrade Debo Adeniran, National President of CDHR the organization said:
“We received with rude shock the news of the passing of the Secretary General of the Nigeria Labour Congress. This is a painful loss not only to the NLC family, but to the entire Nigerian working class and the human rights community.
The deceased was a comrade in struggle. He stood firm on the side of the oppressed, spoke truth to power, and dedicated his life to the protection of workers’ rights and human dignity.
At a time when Nigerians are battling economic hardship, insecurity, and attacks on civil liberties, his death has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.
On behalf of the National Executive Council, members, and all structures of CDHR nationwide, we commiserate with the President, National Administrative Council, and entire membership of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
We pray that God, in His infinite mercy, grants the soul of our departed comrade eternal rest and gives the NLC, his immediate family, and all Nigerians the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
CDHR further called on government at all levels to honour the legacies of labour leaders by protecting workers’ rights, improving welfare, and upholding democratic values for which the late Secretary General stood.
CDHR stands in solidarity with NLC during this period of mourning.
