The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a highly professional and future-ready workforce with the inauguration of Senior Course 15 at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Tuesday, 4 August 2026.

Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Suleiman Chiroma, described the Senior Course as a critical component of the Service’s leadership development strategy. He said the programme is designed to prepare officers for higher responsibilities by strengthening their strategic thinking, decision-making and leadership capacity.

He stated, “Leadership is not defined by rank alone but by competence, integrity and the ability to inspire others. I encourage you to approach this course with commitment and an open mind because the knowledge and experience you gain here will shape your effectiveness as future leaders of the Service.”
In his inaugural address, the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, said the College provides an environment that promotes critical thinking, collaboration and innovation. He added that its curriculum is designed to prepare officers for the evolving demands of customs administration, technological advancement and global trade.

“Character remains the foundation of leadership. Study diligently, challenge yourselves, uphold accountability and teamwork, and make the most of every opportunity this programme offers as you prepare for higher responsibilities,” he advised.

Participants described their selection as a significant milestone in their careers and a demonstration of the Service’s confidence in their abilities. They expressed optimism that the training would broaden their leadership capacity, deepen their professional knowledge, strengthen their decision-making skills and better position them to contribute to improved service delivery and the achievement of the Nigeria Customs Service’s strategic objectives.

Senior Course 15 brings together carefully selected officers from Commands and formations across the Service for intensive academic, leadership and professional development programmes aimed at preparing them for higher management and command responsibilities in support of the Service’s modernisation agenda.
