The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed readiness to collaborate with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to mainstream human rights into its operations.
The proposal was made by the National Chairman and Commander General of VGN, Otunba James Udoma, who sought the Commission's support to train its personnel on fundamental human rights standards applicable to security and law enforcement, in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Chief Tony Ojukwu, OFR, SAN, the Director, Civil and Political Rights, Mr. Halilu Adamu, welcomed the initiative.
He noted the strategic role of VGN in providing community-level intelligence and supporting conventional security agencies, especially in conflict-affected areas, and stressed that such operations must be rights-based.
