Outrage has erupted in Ogbomoso following a protest by residents over the decision of the Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, to take the NRS Training Institute, which was allegedly early positioned to be sited in Ogbomoso in honor of Soun of Ogbomoso Land, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye , to Oyo Town.
The protesters, made up of youths, elders, and concerned stakeholders, trooped out in their numbers on Saturday, carrying placards and demanding explanations over what they described as a betrayal of Ogbomoso's trust.
According to community sources, the NRS Training Institute was initially proposed and strategically positioned to be located in Ogbomoso, considering Dr. Adedeji's claim of Ogbomoso origin and the need to bring federal presence to the zone. To their shock, the project was later moved to Oyo Town without any justification.
The development, residents said, has now vindicated their long-held suspicion.
"Now we have been vindicated that he and his younger brother, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon Adedeji Adesoji , are not truly from Ogbomoso," one of the protest leaders declared.
"If they were genuine sons of Ogbomoso, they would have ensured that such a landmark institute came to Ogbomoso to create jobs and opportunities for our people. Taking it to Oyo Town shows where their loyalty lies."
The residents accused the Adedeji brothers of only identifying with Ogbomoso when it is politically convenient, while in reality working against the interest and development of the ancient town.
They have called on the Federal Government to review the siting of the Institute and ensure that Ogbomoso is not shortchanged, while urging well-meaning sons and daughters of Ogbomoso to speak up against the injustice.
Efforts to get a reaction from Dr. Zacch Adedeji and Hon. Adesoji Adedeji as of press time proved abortive.
