...Urges Security Agencies to Maximise Equipment for Protection of Lives, Property
Dr. Oluwole Olumayokun Oluyede, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State and Convener of the Oluyede Progressive Alliance for Renewed Hope Agenda (OPARHA), has commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the distribution of 100 operational vehicles to security agencies across the state.
Oluyede described the intervention as a significant investment in the security architecture of Ekiti State, saying the provision of operational vehicles would enhance the mobility, visibility and rapid response capacity of security personnel across the state.
The former PDP governorship candidate, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the protection of lives and property should remain a responsibility shared by all political leaders and stakeholders, irrespective of political affiliation.
According to him, the decision by the Oyebanji administration to provide the vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS) and local security outfits demonstrates the importance attached to the safety of Ekiti residents.
“I commend Governor Biodun Oyebanji for this important intervention in the security sector of our dear state.
“Security is the foundation upon which meaningful development can take place. Without peace and safety, our people cannot fully enjoy the benefits of government programmes, businesses cannot thrive and investors cannot have the confidence to invest.
“The provision of these 100 operational vehicles is therefore more than the acquisition of vehicles. It is an investment in the capacity of our security agencies to respond more effectively to emergencies, improve patrols and maintain a strong security presence across our communities,” Oluyede said.
The Ekiti State Government had on Monday handed over 100 operational vehicles to security agencies as part of efforts to strengthen security operations, enhance rapid response to emergencies and improve the mobility of security personnel.
Governor Oyebanji said the intervention was also designed to support the eventual take-off of the proposed Ekiti State Police Outfit. He recalled that his administration had previously provided patrol vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers, bulletproof vests, helmets and other security equipment to security agencies in the state.
Oluyede said the latest intervention should be matched with effective utilisation, maintenance and professional deployment of the vehicles to achieve the desired results.
He urged the various security agencies to work collaboratively and make maximum use of the resources provided by the state government.
“I particularly appeal to our security agencies to see this intervention as a call to greater responsibility. The vehicles must be deployed effectively and maintained properly so that they can serve the people for a long time.
“More importantly, there must be stronger collaboration among the various security agencies. Intelligence sharing, rapid response and coordinated operations are essential to sustaining the peace that Ekiti is known for,” he said.
Oluyede also commended the men and women of the security services operating in Ekiti for their sacrifices and dedication to the protection of citizens.
He noted that security personnel often work under difficult conditions and deserve the support of government and the cooperation of residents.
He therefore called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, religious bodies and residents across the 16 local government areas to continue supporting security agencies with useful information that could help prevent crime and protect communities.
According to him, the responsibility for a peaceful Ekiti should not be left exclusively to government or security agencies.
“Government has a responsibility to provide the necessary equipment and institutional support, while security agencies have the responsibility to deploy those resources professionally. The citizens also have a responsibility to cooperate with the security agencies and provide credible information.
“That is how we can collectively build a safer and more prosperous Ekiti,” Oluyede stated.
He further expressed confidence that sustained investment in security, infrastructure, human capital development and economic opportunities would contribute significantly to the long-term development of the state.
Oluyede said Ekiti's relative peace remained one of its greatest assets and urged the Oyebanji administration to sustain its investment in security and other sectors that directly affect the welfare of the people.
He added that political differences should never prevent leaders from acknowledging policies and programmes that are beneficial to the people.
“As leaders, we must learn to put the interest of Ekiti above partisan considerations. Whenever government takes steps that are in the interest of our people, such efforts deserve encouragement.
“The security and prosperity of Ekiti belong to all of us. We must therefore continue to support every genuine effort aimed at making our state safer, more peaceful and more conducive for development,” Oluyede said.
